All these articles that have nothing to do with actual hardware reviews are really screwing this site up. After all, the website’s name is Tom’s Hardware, not Tom’s advice for the AMD or Intel “Fanboys”. I come here to read hardware reviews. Not opinion columns.
There are obvious valid discussion topics that help hardware enthusiasts like myself make intelligent buying decisions.
For example:
The AMD Athlon’s ability to go into thermal nuclear meltdown when the heat sink is removed.
Intel’s P3 processor that had to be recalled after Tom’s Hardware discovered its flaws.
What is irritating me is that the site seems to be drifting dangerously toward becoming the “Jerry Springer Hardware Zone”. It is becoming a web site that is more concerned with writing stinging articles targeted at a specific product’s supporters or critics than it is with producing many and varied reviews of PC hardware.
I have been reading articles on this site for many years. I started visiting here when the original Pentium ruled the roost and the upstart AMD was a mere shadow in the marketplace. I have bought components for many systems based off the knowledge I have gained form numerous evenings spent reading hardware reviews here.
Of late, I am finding that I am drifting away from this site in favor of others who spend more time reviewing products and less on expressing their personal views towards their readers and/or critics.
I can only hope that “Tom’s Hardware” will discontinue or dramatically decrease this type of content.
As a hardware enthusiast, I think I speak for many readers when I ask for more of what brought me to “Tom’s Hardware” in the first place, hardware reviews.
I am interested in reading unbiased reviews about CPUs, graphic cards, active cooling, motherboards, and all the other things we love to stuff into our custom colored aluminum sheathed hot rod PCs.
Please ignore the “Fanboys.” Their allegiances tend to sparkle and fade.
Just so you know, AMD is not an upstart, they have been around as long as Intel, and are over 30 years old. It really bugs me that people instantly assume AMD came from nothing with the Athlon, they actually made 286's, 386's, 486's, ect ect. Its not untill recently (Well, about 10 years ago now) that they decided to part with duplicating Intel chips in order to produce thier own distinct product. Enter the K5/K6/ect/Athlon. And your right, the opinion columns are pointless on this site and lead to less and less respect for this site in my and others eyes. But thought I would share with you a little of AMD's history.
I apologize for insinuating that AMD was a new company. I meant upstart solely in PC CPU market share. If what I have read remains true, they are still far from catching up to Intel in production volume.
My point is that technology always marches forward, and companies and products come and go (3dfx). Who knows where we will be in 10 years, or if there will even be an Intel or AMD when we get there.
This site should base its reviews and opinions on what is important to its audience.

For instance, I will use a Pentium 4 with Rambus memory if I deem that is what is best suited for my circumstances. On the other hand, an Athlon XP with DDR 2700 memory may be what the doctor ordered.
I really don’t care if Rambus is or is not stealing ideas from the memory manufactures of the world. If their product is what I need, and it is legal to buy it, I will by it. Let the courts decide the rest.
I say review the products (Not the companies) and tell us which is the best.
I argee with you on the fact that we need unbiased reviews. But I also don't mind hearing others reviews. But I do admit that this last opinion in the colum was a bit overboard, but I believe everyone is entitled to their opinion.
