I turned my computer on today and discovered that it no longer recognized my CD/DVD drives that are on the secondary IDE channel. I switched them and the hdd's that were on the primary channel and the computer then recognized the optical drives but not the hdd's. So it seems that I have a problem with the secondary channel. The only change that I have made in my bios over the last few days is that I disabled my floppy drive (I had to use the cable for something else). I didn't think that it was possible that that could have caused any problem but just in case I reenabled it (nothing happened) and then as a last resort I cleared CMOS (still no devices on secondary channel...) any suggestion? Should I just get a new board??
Thanks
Most likely its the cable that connects the optical drive/HDD to the secondary channel on the mobo that needs to be replaced. Swap the cables between Primary and Secondary channels and give it a shot!
Nope, it's not the cable (although I was hoping that was the problem) the cable works fine when it's hooked up to the primary channel. I'd rather buy a new cable than a new mobo
Not recognized in windows or bios? Try the offending hdd on the primary cable, and see if it is recognized in bios, also enable smartcheck. Could be the hdd has gone south.
