Epox 8K7A+ CDR-RW problem

Hello - strange problem here. I have an 8K7A+, along with two optical drives - a Pioneer 16x DVDROM and a Lite-on 52x32x52x CDR-RW.

If I install the VIA IDE busmaster drivers from the Epox support website and run them, they set the CDRW drive to DMA (can't remember which mode, specifically). The drive reads media just fine. When I try to burn a CD though, I invariably get a system crash. Uninstalling the drivers fixes the problem, except that the drive, although set to DMA if available under windows hardware manager, defaults to PIO mode and seems to read significantly slower.

Any ideas what's going on?

Fixed it.

For some unknown reason, there's a setting buried in the BIOS - allow UDMA for CD-ROMS. I have no idea why it was disabled, but enabling it seemed to fix the problem.
