P4 vs Celeron worth the up in price?

Im building a new low end pc, as a retainer until i get my laptop for college, and im wondering, if i were to get a 2.4 ghz (pentium 4 based) celeron proc for my new system, would i be making a dire mistake? what would this hold me back from doing? how much faster is the P4 at the same core freq?
