Hi, I'm a longtime reader of these forums and I'm coming to you now with a call for help...
I just built a new computer for someone from parts from Newegg and a motherboard+cpu+memory bundle from Accessmicro, which they burn in and test.
Now, I have setup the computer and the darn thing will not power on when I hit the power button. The motherboard is not touching any metal, and when I hit the switch on the power supply the standby green LED on the motherboard lights up.
When I hit the power button, I get nothing. I have tried reversing the headers every which way, to no avail. I took out all the front panel headers except the power switch and it still would not work.
Would any of my devices be culprits? I'm running through them now checking the wires, but I don't recall what all this evidence implies. The motherboard should not be bad, and hopefully the chances of faulty button connectors is slim (it's a nice case from Antec).
If anyone can provide a clue to go on, I would be grateful. I'm leaving on a plane in 3 days and need to get this settled for a family member who knows nil about computers.
Here are the specs:
Intel 2.6C P4
ASUS P4PE-X Mobo
2 x Kingston DDR400 512MB
ATI Radeon 9600 AIW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz
Lite-On DVD-R
Teac FDD
Western Digital 120 GB 8 MB Buffer
If I have forggotten anything, please let me know.
i did the same crap when i built this system, it shoudl deff boot up... what SHOULD happen is when you boot, your floppy will just have the green light stay on all teh time, that's how you know it's in backwards.
