A7N8X-Deluxe: Post reporter randomly reports system failed memory test and post report screen shows no cpu or ram. Have run memtest86 with no errors reported, switched out ram sticks and it proves no difference.

I realize the audible post reporter can be turned off, but that is not the root of the problem. Why it suddenly started reporting "system failed memory test", POST screen not showing a cpu or ram in random circumstances, and "choppy" system performance is.

Sometimes the system can give the error report and continue to boot to desktop as normal and then other times hang up at the SATA RAID screen, before or after..but before starting to boot from OS.

Ideas would be appreciated.

The 2 things that come to mind are mem timings and bad bios. The online bios flash is easy, and well worth the try, if it fixes the problem. If that doesn't do it, try relaxing the memory timings in bios. Look at what they are now, and raise each number up by 1. The one at the bottom only goes to 3T so that will have to do.
