I am starting flight school next week and I am looking for a good flight simulator. I have seen Flight Simulator X by Microsoft but are there any other packages that include yoke, rudder and instument configurations? The packages I have seen cost anywhere from 4k - 13k, and thats alot to add on to the 40k for the school. The reason I wanted it was to practice while at home. If you know of any home built system solutions please let me kow!

FSX will suit you just fine - but to get the best out of it you need a quad core CPU as it puts more strain on the CPU than on a GPU.

Yokes / Pedals can be had fairly cheaply, all the way up to the pro stuff costing hundreds.

A friend of mine used his pc and control set to practice for his pilots licence. I thionk in total he spent £800 for the PC / FSX / Yoke / Rudder / Pedal set up
