OK, I 'am going to build a "EL CHEAPO" PC and would like to know if the Asus P4SMX GX M/B (micro atx with onboard graphics and AGP slot) is a good reliable board even though it is outdated. I can buy this M/B new and it's price is cheap - $89 Australian.

Thanks,

Do you mean the P4S-533 MX board with the sis 651 chipset? The one that can use sdram or ddr sdram? It's fine so long as you dont put a celeron on it. For celerons I suggest socket 370, cause bang for buck, they are way better.

No, the board is advertised as P4SGX MX and supports 2700DDR when using P4's and 2100 with Celerons. It is the SIS 649 or 650 chipset - not exactly shore, but it is definitely not the 651 chipset.

I was going to fit a 2.4G Celeron to it.

Duron 1.6 GHz and AXP 1700+ is way better than Celeron 2.4 GHz and costs less.

plus nforce2 IGP is best available integrated Gfx chipset, and if mcp-t Southbridge is Also best integrated sound. Will probably cost a bit more than the suggested mobo, but the cheaper CPU should cover much of that.
