Hi I've been running a Western Digital 120GB IDE drive for a while, recently I bought two 120GB Hitachi Serial ATA drives. I installed them, made sure my SATA jumper (near the CMOS) was enabled. I get the RAID screen and I went into it and it gives me the RAID 0 or 1 options. I don't want RAID, I just want my IDE to be C:, and my two new SATA drives to be E: and F: (or whatever letters). How can I do this? My computer doesn't even see the new SATA drives right now but they are detected during the RAID config.

you need to install the sata drivers from the installation cd that came with your mb. shouldn't be any problem to use them the way you've indicated.

Agree,i suggest you reinstall the system, and when it show press F6 to install Raid service, insert your CD to setup. Then there shall be no problem.

Truth is somewhere out there!

You gotta install the silicon raid driver from the CD. If you ever plan on making one of the SATA drives into your prime drive then it maybe a good idea to put those drivers on a floppy.

I don't think Windows setup will allow use of CD at the F6 prompt. Only the floppy.

Thanks you everyone for all the help. One thing I don't understand. If I install the SATA drivers, it will install to C: of course which is my primary. I want to take C: out and just use my two SATA drives. So in other words I want to only use my two blank SATA drives and do a fresh install of XP. Then I want to temporarily install my IDE to transfer all my files then rip it back out. So if I only have the two SATA drives installed how can I get SATA0 to be the primary (boot) HD?
