Firstly, does using the Windows 7 upgrade invalidate your previous key?

If so, is it possible to feed it another key, say an OEM key from an old, broken computer, in order to save a perfectly good key?

Thanks.

Those are not allowed by the license agreements. Irrespective of whether or not the key will actually work, if you use the upgrade version then ethically you're not allowed to use the previous version any more. And if the old, broken computer has an OEM key then you're not allowed to transfer it to a different computer.

So you're essentially saying that if I could and did do this, it would be on par with pirating the OS.

Alright it was worth a try. I don't need the extra copy of XP anyway.

Thanks.
