does a regular xbox have to be used with a computer

I am looking to buy a used xbox but i need to know if it has to be used with a computer or can i just use it with a tv and go with it from there..

Thank You MouseMonkey I am new at all this i found a used xbox not a 360 on ebay and it was a good price but I have no idea about any of the console or what ever you call those things. I was just trying to find a website that would tell me the difference between the xbox and the xbox 360 or if there is any?? My son at home has no computer and i wanted this to be a little surprise for him.

Regular xbox is older, the 360 is going to be a better performer and have more modern games.
