Any idea what this message is about?
It comes up, accompanied by a horrible beeping sound right after the MB startup detects the IDE drives. This is a blank hard drive.

This is just not my day…

Boot sector virus warning feature, either give it permission to boot by the yes option, or go into the CMOS setup, by holding down the delete key on startup, and disabling the bootsector virus warning feature, after loading the OP/SYS go back into the CMOS and re-enable it, if you want to.

This comes up on a completely blank hard drive. Is the BIOS writing the virus to the disk?

This is because of a setting in your bios. Just do what 4ryan6 told you to do; press yes to accept. After you have loaded the os go back into the bios and look for anything that will notify you if you are writing to the boot sector and disable it. There is no virus.

OMG...d00d, if you have boot sector virus protection turned on in BIOS, ANY program trying to write to the boot sector of your drive will cause that message to be displayed. Even formatting the drive or loading the OS from the CD.

The system in question here has been having IDE problems and corrupting Windows.

That’s why I’m concerned about a virus; it’s an odd problem this system is having. The strangest I’ve run into actually.
