Age of Mythology online

Hello, I have Age of Mythology Gold, and a friend has the original AoM. When we try to play online together, we can't invite eachother to hosted games. This shouldn't be a problem because technically, Gold users have the original AND the expansion. Is there a way for Gold users to turn off the Expansion and play online with someone who only has the original AoM? All help appreciated!

When you start AoM, isn't there an option to launch "AoM only" to disable the Gold options?
