I just recently bought a new 3.0ghz pentium 4 and intel board d865gbf. I installed all my new components in my case and when i turn it on, the machine POSTs, but when attempting to load windows, it completely restarts. This is an unending cycle. Is this a problem with the motherboard settings in the BIOS? Any ideas how to fix this?
Just a thought from my own recent experience, do you have BIOS set to boot from your hard drive first or CD-ROM, In the typical BIOS there is an option for the sequence in which the machine looks for the boot files. By default it is ususlly set to a floppy disk first, then the primary (HDD-0) hard drive, and possibly 3rd place is a CD-ROM. I made the mistake of setting to boot from the CD-ROM first when instally Windows XP on a new sytem I built, and after copying some files to the hard drive the installation program will need to reboot, instead of booting from the hard drive to continue running the setup it would boot from the CD-ROM and start back at the beginning of the OS installation process.
LOL, are you using XP or 2k? Are you trying to run a previously installed OS? When you make any major hardware changes you have to reinstall the OS, or it will continuously reboot, especially in the case of XP which is designed to prevent you from making any major system changes after installation.
