IC7 - lost IDE drives

I just got my RMA'd board from Abit, did a fresh install, got rid of the viruses, everything have been great since. Except I had one PCI device showing a yellow exclamation. It turned out to be a Intel IDE driver. Well I just noticed one of my primary and secondary IDE channels are showing yellow exclamations saying device cannot start. I've tried removing, reinstalling them, anything I can think of. I've removed every IDE channel driver, nothing helps. I am not showing any other system errors. Here's a link to a photo of my device manager:

The device that's "working" is wrong, the device that's marked with an exclamation point is the right part but conflicting. Here's your solution:

1. Reinstall the Intel INI update, but don't restart when it ask you to.
2. Delete the primary and secondary controllers that AREN'T marked, and don't restart.
3. Delete the primary and secondary controllers that ARE marked
4. Reboot.

ok I reinstalled the Intel INF files, inf50.exe. Did exactly as you said and nothing has changed. Except that now the intel drivers both show as:

Wow. This is definately a software issue. I've encountered it before. And what I recommended has always solved it for me.

Try removing all the controllers again (including the main controller) and reboot, see if that's still the problem.

Yeah I agree with you on this. I've tried deleting all of the drivers, but it ends up the same way. You think the SCSI driver has anything to do with this? I won't be able to try this until Saturday when I get home. I have faith in you helping me! ;-)

Thanks

Hmm, not sure, all I know is that normally when this happens it's the "working" device which is not really there and using the wrong driver, and the "non-working" device really is there but has a driver confict with the non-existant device.

Sometimes deleting drivers is not sufficient, because the INF that installed them is still lurking in your system. Search for all the *.INF files on your harddrive and find any of them that refer to IDE. They will usually be in an oem##.inf file. Delete the offending INF in addition to deleting the driver registration, and when you reboot, windows will no longer re-install the faulty drivers. Then you can start over with the Intel INF update etc...

Hope this helps

How do I know I'll get the right .inf file? And what's this driver registration, where's it at?

Thanks,
Dave

Since the No.1 fix that crashman didn't work which i agree with his methods. There is Something you can do but its a little more extreme but when all else fails 99.9% of the time this will work.

1. Try to get the latest Download of the Intel inf update for your mobo from Abit site. - Even sometimes you can go to Intel's site and do this by Chipset and they have probably a better update then Abits website. Do not Reboot your computer at all during this operation.

2. Start -> RUn -> Regedit -> Do a search For MF (I think MF is still part of the NT system) If you can't find MF then abandon this project and pray for the best.

3. When you find MF - open the Key and delete both Child0001 and Child0002 (these are your HDD controllers)

4. Go into Device manager and Delete the Controllers in there.

5. Reboot.

6. Run the New chipset controller software That you got from Intel or Abit - I would personally search intel first.

Intel INF Update for 875P/ICH5 RAID Chipset:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df/filter_results.asp?strOSs=19&strTypes=DRV,ARC,UTL&ProductID=1043&OSFullName=Windows*+2000&submit=Go!

Reboot your computer when the INF update is done.

First off everyone, thanks for the help. This is the only forum of 8 I posted in that gave a damn! KUDOS!

I couldn't find any *.INF OEM related files yet I found some listed in the registry, so that confused me. I did install the latest Intel drivers but when I removed everything and rebooted it loaded the older drivers ;-( I tried searching the registry for any "MF" listings, but jeez there's was tons not related. so I continued to beat my head on the desk.

Then I had a thought, something I mentioned to Crashman the other day "How about the SCSI drivers causing problems?" SCORE!!!! I uninstalled that device and bingo, bammo, boomo the devices came back! WOOHOOO........

Thanks again!
