After finally setting up my new computer piece, I pluged in the power supply, turned it on and pressed the power button, and nothing happend. None of the fans started up, however i could hear a ringing coming from the power supply, which would stop when the on off switch on the powersupply was turned off. Using my old 250watt power supply from the computer im currently using now had the same results. I had assumed then that is was the wires connecting to the mainboard from the case that were not in correctly, but i have followed the instructions from the mainboard booklet clearly, and made sure they were in the right spots. I had also borrowed a case from a friend, pluged everything in, and this time i could not even hear the powersupply ringing. I gave up, and am hoping for answer :) My expierience with building computers is this is the first one, however I have taken apart and put back together several other ones and did feel confident in the computer I built working. Here is a list of everything that were used to build the system.

O CPU- Amd Athlon XP 1800+
O mainboard- Soltek DV5 (Purple Ray)
O case + power- Generic ATX Case / Duro 400W Power Supply
O sound- on board
O video- borrowed from friends, not sure (temp, have a radeon 8500 coming in the mail) 16mb pci.
O ram- 512mb (one stick) pc2400 oc safe with thermaltake heat shield
O hard drive- seagate barracuda 7200rpm 80gb
O floppy drive- none (i wasing using the generic one in the gateway im using now)
O cdrw- Sony 24x/10x/40x

If there is anyone that has an idea what could be wrong,, I would very greatly appreciate it. I had spent under $500 for everything, and was looking forward to using it, but it stinks that its only purpouse so far has been sitting in the corner of my room. Thanks a lot for taking the time to read, many cheers. Take care

~Skye

a fulltower case, nothing was in it. just wanted to see if the problem was the power switches and other plugs, but that case did not yeild a different result than what i bought.

my power supply may be weird? it was purchased along with the case from aliencases.com for $9.95 plus 20 bucks shipping. I thought that was kind of cheap, so i didnt trust it. but,, the 250w supply that works fine in the computer im using didnt work either. is it just too low of watts anyway?

Step one unplug everything non essential and try again. Loose everything but the main board. Check keyboard/mouse connections. The Keyboard plugs in closest to the MB.

Give me fuel, give me fire, give me that which I desire.
