I have an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Revision 2 Motherboard and I am trying to install Windows XP Pro on my two Western Digital 250 Gigabyte SATA Drives.
I have two Western Digital Drives and I will not be using any of the RAID System Configurations.
One IDE SATA Drive will be the 250 Gigabyte Drive "C" Partition and the other one will be the Drive "D" 250 Gigabyte Partition.
I connected the two SATA Drives to the Motherboard's 7 Pin SATA1 and the SATA2 Connectors.
I am using the Serial ATA interface and not the Promise Interface with none of the RAID Configurations.
When I try to install Windows XP Pro it asks after I enter in with the "F6" Key to load off a Floppy Disk the additional Software Device Driver so Windows XP Pro can recognize the Western Digital 250 Gigabyte SATA Drive.
On the Internet Website for ASUS there are numerous Software Device Drivers to download and install.
Which is the correct Software Device Driver for Windows XP Pro to use for this System Configuration which is not using the Promise SATA Interface or any of the RAID System Configurations?
If you're not installing on the RAID channel then I don't see why you should have to press F6 during windows setup - AFAIK that's just for additional controller's (such as RAID, SCSI). The install should recognise the drives properly without the need to press F6.
Anyway, the only file close to relevant from the asus website is:
>>>Promise FastTrak 378 RAID Driver V1.00.1.37 for Windows 98SE/NT4/ME/2000/XP/2003<<<
