I'm looking into building a few Pcs for people here at work to use, and We're kinda set on one particular supplier. I'm probably going to plump for a P4 2.6 system or thereabouts, and I was looking at an AOpen AX4SPE-UN motherboard (<A HREF="http://english.aopen.com.tw/products/mb/AX4SPE-UN.htm" target="_new">spec here</A>), because it's reasonably priced, Has on-board LAN & sound, and is available from the guys the higher-ups want to get the stuff from.

Any thoughts on Aopen mobos? Remember these are workhorse PCs, so overclocking and gaming performance are simply not an issue.

I used to have a pretty negative impression of AOpen products, but I have read some pretty positive things about their motherboards. I wouldn't be afraid of using this board for your builds. From what I hear, they are good quality if not the best performers.

I've had one for the p4b, really nice board. The great thing about aOpen is that then have an endless list of amazing features and softwarepacks.

I say go for it..

If you can avoid brands like AOpen, then it's better to avoid.

Since reliability is the most important thing. I would buy from some real trustworthy brands like ASUS/ABIT/MSI/Gigabyte.

Aopen has a better reputation with many system builders than Gigabyte or even Abit, they didn't go through the capacitor fiasco as I recall.

There's no problems with AOPEN boards - not now anyway from reports that I have read.

But I can tell you that I've read many a bad report about ASUS boards.

Probably the luck of the draw - all brands can have faults especially as they are mass produced.

AFAIK, most of the problematic ASUS P4 boards are SiS chipset based

Aopen is better known as Acer, or Ali (as in ali chipsets). They can be real hit or miss. Fortunately they are not too bad with rma. You will either love them or hate them.
