The Gigabyte 8KNXP has three RAID controllers (Intel, Silicon Image, and ITE), plus something called GigaRAID. It also has two SATA controllers (Intel and Silicon Image). But in the BIOS, the SATA and RAID settings don't specify which controller they are for. Has anyone sorted out what BIOS settings go with what controllers?

I specifically would like to set up a RAID 1 array on the Intel controller, leaving the Silicon Image controller available for external SATA HD (it allow hot-swapping, the Intel apparently does not). Right now the Intel driver update doesn't recognize my ICH5R (it apparently things it is the ICH5), so Intel tells me to reinstall the OS. Do I really have to do this?

Thanks

Juding by the specs you have 3 raid controllers, SATA, SCSI & IDE. IDE Raid=Gigaraid, SATA Raid=Silicon, SCSI Raid=Intel.
Thats my view..
