Unlike the usual problems linked to the nVidia IDE driver my problem seems to happen in both Microsofts default Ide Controler driver and any of the nVidia driver versions (2.03-3.13).
I have recently upgraded from a Asus A7N8X motherboard to a abit NF7-s. Except for the processor which was upgraded at the same time from a 1800XP to a 2600XP all the other hardware is identical.
My Problem is when i burn DVD-R using my Toshiba SD-R5002 and Nero 5.5.10 even though i set the burning speed to 2x and i get no errors it takes a little under an hour to burn an entire dvd which would mean that my the SD-R5002 is in fact burning at 1x speed.
I have clean installed Windows 2000 SP3 when i changed motherboard, i did another clean install when i read about the nVidia IDE driver problem and made sure not to install them. I have linux installed also but have not yet manage to get all the dependencies sorted out to burn DVD's so i didnt see if this problem still occured on a different OS.
I put this topic under Motherboards because this only occured after i changed my motherboard. The dvd burner was correctly burning when it was installed on my A7N8X and i would get a DVD in around 25 minutes.
Does anyone have a solution? experience the same problem? Any ideas?
NF7-s Rev 2.0 Bios ID 2.3
Athlon 2600XP
256 PC2700 Geil Ram
GeForce 4 Ti4200
Matrox 60GB 7200RPM IDE1 Master (All ide device use 80pin cables)
Matrox 60GB 7200RPM IDE1 Slave
SD-R5002 IDE2 Master (switched order, having the dvd burner as slave but didnt help)
SD-M1712 IDE2 Slave
Generic Network Adapter with 4 port hub
Floppy
DVD: Princo 1-4x DVD-R They come from a 100 DVD spindle and the same spindle was used before and after motherboards change.
Update:
Upgrading to Nero 6.3 and testing Memorex 4x DVD's did not solve the problem.
I was going to try and attach the dvd burner to the SATA controler but the serillel adapter which comes with the motherboard has one of the pins on the connector blocked. Having read silicon images FAQ and comments on the adapter not supporting ATAPI drives anyways stopped me for now from drilling a hole in the connector.
Since nobody seems to have any solution and im running out of ideas i will go and buy an IDE PCI controler in a couple of days, hopefully thats should solve the problem.
Edited by Al3x1s on 03/25/04 04:52 PM.
