Ok so, Firstly I hope this is the correct section for PC Gaming Support. Well basically occasionally, not always but my Counter-Strike: Source will crash upon joining a server. I have had a scope around and a lot of threads say it is to do with an Internet Download Manager which I can assure I do not have running. Threads have also said to set the game for the compatibility of Windows XP so I have done. The error still occurs.
Usually what will happen is I would start CSS, Join a server and when MOTD (Message of the Day) is displayed as well as 'Ok' before assigning a team it will freeze, leading me to close it on my own through the process of hl2.exe. Then if I rejoin by restarting the game it will load up perfectly. But if I were to disconnect to join another server it will crash there.
I am completely stumbled upon why this is happening or even how.
Below is my basic system specifications.
Machine name: TOM-PC
Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.091207-1941)
I know this thread as old as hell, but this problem persists for a lot of people. In regards to the MOTD crashing CS:S; all you have to do is hit the enter key over and over as CSS connects to the server, then, it skips the MOTD and it won't crash. This is the only fix i've found.
