I just updated my XP Pro to SP2, and now there's a Windows Security Alerts icon in my taskbar, and it won't go away unless I turn on automatic updating and enable of firewall, neither of which I want to do. Any one know how I can fix this? Thanks for your help.

Microsoft thinks we are all stupid end users. XP is a good OS but it can be a real pain in the ass.
