DeskJet 5550 problem

I've had a DeskJet 5550 for a year and a half, and never had a problem until
recently. Suddenly, when I'm printing text, it will give me a couple of
lines of dark, streaky text alternating with a few lines of lighter, sharper
text.

I've changed the black-ink cartridge and run the printer through the
cleaning cycle twice, but it makes no difference.

Any thoughts?
