I need to assemble a network of webcams for surveillance at a garage, and id like to know what would be the best approach. I need to use unexpensive cameras, and id like to avoid having a PC connected to them. Is it possible to connect them to an external modem and program them to broadcast over the internet? Which software should i get for the task?
Zanboo!!!
Exactly what your looking for...
Zamboo is a killer little product, connecting four(4) webcams with motion dectectors to your PC thru the USB port. Well, ya said ya don't really want to have to connect to a PC, but how ya gonna ya going to accesss the cams if arent connected to a PC with somekinda access????
And for $88.00 plus sales tax ya get...
*** The Zanboo Super Kit...
2 WebCams with Motion dectors(with 60ft exension cable for each)
1 Controller that plugs into your Pc's USB port
The controller has inputs for 4 cams...
1 Zanboo Software bundle
1 month(30-day) free access to your cams anytime, anywhere from/via the internet
(the 1st 30 days free internet access to your cams is free, $9.95 per month there after. I just went for 1 yr for $120 and I can access my cams anytine - It really works!! I'll explain, And I love it!!! Killer Plus++ System!!!)
The skinny - Its a killer system...
Actually the whole system is centered arounded small controller, about the size of a dsl or cable modem, that plugs into your USB port. The controller then has inputs for four(4) WebCams. The software connects/can access the controller and select the cam that is desplayed to the the screen in its window... Even better, if the webCam is an Xanboo WebCam or one of many WebCams that have a Motion Dector - then the motion dector will trigger a save to an AVI file!!! Defalut is a 15 Second AviFile saved of whatever tirggered the motion dectoor -Killer!!! Now also, if you box is connected to the internet, your can access you cams remotely - Ya really need a broadband internet connection for responsive live feeds from your box, but if ya have an aDSL or Cable internet connection ya get very good real time remote access and live vidio(with sound) from your cams....
Check it out, www.xanboo.com and get back to me, rplewis@mindspring.com
I've had the Xanboo system for about 3 months - got it from CompUsa - and it runs like a charm. So good infact, I made a little add-on program in VB to Activate the Motion Dectect AVI sav at 10PM thru 7AM every nite automaticy...
The little Zamboo system realy works and is very reliable - which is a *** WHOLE LOT IN TODAYS MARKET ***!!!
Oh Yea, there are problems, not with the Xanboo system, but with WebCams, like resolution, lighting, Nite_Vision clarity, motion detect and infra-red campatability and such - but altogether KILLER!!!!
I call it my "BooOnYou" System!!!
And it sure stoped my problems with the reason I installed it! - IMMEDIATELY!!!
There are areas on my property that are most definitely Covered - both vidio and audio (Which some complain that is illegal to be recording audio - however the local police know I have it - and it's private property - no problems yet!)
Check it out - you'll be amazed and love it!!!
If ya go Zanboo, go SuperKit, (not Starter kit).
The SuperKit gives ya 2 cams(with internal motion dectors), controller, and softwarefor $88 bucks... then it's like $100+ bucks for additional Infra-Red NiteVision Webcams(each), $49 for Std DayLight Webcams
But for less than $400 bucks ya can have 4 cams covering both Day and Nite views and have killer views...
I just love my BooOnYou!!!
*** If ya like the XanBoo system, get back and I tell ya how I wrote a couple VB modules to gain remote access without Xanboo's remote monthly free...
Its no secret - and an Xanboo marketing oversight!
Gee - the Xamboo marketing people must think broadband users are pretty niave and can't even access thier own boxes remotely!!! Oh Well - Ya might want to pick up and Zanboo system before they close that ability...
For a quick Picture of ZamBoo and my add-onns...
