getting ready to build my first SATA system and i'm abit confused about what to expect from the controllers on the motherboards (ASUS P4C800, ABit IC7-MAX3). most of the boards with SATA controllers on them and the build-it guides that use these boards have a RAID 0 setup with duplicate drives.

i'm not interested in building a RAID setup at all, just a single SATA 120GB drive. is this possible on these motherboards?

yes. you can install just one drive configured without a raid 0,1 setup on one of the 2 serial ata channels.
