My old system was the following:
Q9450
8GB ddr2 800
Vista 64
Evga 9800GTX
Hitachi 750GB HD

Performance not too good.

I have a new system with the following:
i7 860 @ 3.73 Ghz
4gb 2133 memory @ 2106
xfx 5970 Black Edition
Intel ssd
Win 7 64 bit
DLink Extreme Gaming Router 4500

My ping is 10ms. My PCMark Vantage score is 25014.
New computer is extremely fast and great performance for everything except MW2.
My performance is poor no matter what I do in MW2.
I am always in last place. It's like everyone is faster than me.
Not much improvement from old system.

I don't think it matters what your system is.

Does anyone have good performance in MW2?
Do you have any suggestions?
Help.

Drivers updated? Resolution/Video settings set correctly(not to high, not to low)? Activision pretty much locked everything down. As far as "your performance"? Maybe you should practice more? :o

My MW2 runs just fine.... You have to remember that you are connecting to another peer's connection, not to a dedicated server. How fast is your internet connection? Um, ...your router, its both wireless and wired? If so are you hardwired? If not maybe you should try and connect an ethernet cable to the router and your computer to see if it is losing signal through wireless.

^^ Blame the P2P based server system.

Or, you could just stink at MW2.

It's because you don't have AIMBOT like everyone else in MW2. haha.

As said before it is a P2P gaming structure. If you have a slow host (ie. someone's PC) EVERYONE will be slow. I played this for 2 months before it was polluted with people using hacks like aimbot. Some people also run glitching utilities that make their ping low so they jitter across the map making them hard to hit. Makes you miss Punkbuster doesn't it?

MW2 is based on the COD4 engine. It will run on virtually any machine that has any sort of gaming capabilities what so ever. Your older machine would run this perfectly fine because its DX9 and runs a 3-4 year old gaming engine. It's an EPIC FAIL.

I gave up on MW2 and moved to Bad Company 2. It has dedicated servers, is DX11 (which your 5970 will just LOVE), and PUNKBUSTER. Last night me and my buddies were on a server and a few people were auto banned within 2 minutes because they tried to hack. It was great to know it actually works. The games are smooth as butter even on servers that are a country away.

It helps BC2 that Punkbuster isn't beeing as much as a pain as it was for BF2...(so far at least...)

Yeah it doesn't seem to be a bother at all. I actually filter by servers with PB to make sure they kick any cheaters. PB has come a long way in the last few years.

an 8600GT can eat that game alive. I dont think ive seen a single review of any gaming capable card that featured mw1/2 where the fps ever dipped below 60.
