Replacing my Abit KX333...with anything!

Last response: in Motherboards

I have an 'old' Abit KX7-333 board and an 'old' XP 1600+ that need to be retired.
I am looking for suggestions on replacing this stuff with a newer board/cpu/memory/video. I want to stick with AMD all the way.

Although I've had Abit boards in the past the brand is not necessarily a priority for me (but I always liked their jumperless bios settings). I've also successfully dabbled in overclocking but again it is not necessarily a requirement for me (of course I wouldn't mind getting more bang for the $ by tweaking here and there).

I don't do much gaming and I use the machine mainly for web site/graphics work, spreadsheets, databases, internet access.

Suggestions on what mobo as well as memory and video cards and where I might pick up some decent memory. I can spend about $500 - $800 in total for it all.

I don't mind replacing the mobo, video card, memory, in my case but if I am better served by an off-the-shelf Dell system (or whatever) then make that suggestion too.

Thanks!
wallaye

Get this, it's fast and cheap: An XP Mobile 2500+, Abit NF7-S version 2.0, 2 sticks of PC3200, and an ATI 9800 Pro. Then overclock the XP to 3200+ speed simply by increasing the bus speed to 200MHz clock rate (400MHz data rate).

No Crash...not simply by increasing bus speed, because it will end up at 2.7GHz! The mobile 2500+ is running a 133 bus with a multiplier of 13.5 or 14, iirc to have 1.8xGHz. But 2.4 Ghz is easily obtainable by running 12x200 with a little bump in vcore to 1.65V, again iirc my setting on mine.

And that easily done without any fancy cooler too at this setting.

-Always put the blame on you first, then on the hardware !!!

w00t, I forgot about the mobiles still using ancient bus speeds, thanks for the reminder!
