My friend will buy a computer and I recommend him for buying AMD for the processor. Now I confused! I don’t know the best motherboard for AMD. Can you give me the options of brand name and the type of motherboards, if I choose AMD Athlon XP 1800+ until 2400+ as the processor!
For information my computer has AMD Athlon XP 1800+ inside with mobo ECS K7S5A. And I think, it is a good couple, because ECS have an economic price, performance, and stability.
I hear many of the promotional of ASUS mobo for AMD. That promo says if ASUS are the best mobo, have a many award, etc… But I still have a friend using ASUS mobo and AMD Athlon XP 2200+ and it was have a trouble; they can’t used their computer with ‘normal’ mode in stable condition, they must downing the clock of processor and get the stability with the non-standard speed of AMD Athlon XP 2200+. So I am wary about the quality of ASUS.
Please give your recommendations, which mobo should my friend use, if he choose the mostly performance system? And which mobo should my friend use if he chooses the combination of performance with the wise price?
Thank you in advance.

The Abit NF7 range have a very good reputation (I would probably buy one of those, based on what I have read, if I was in your situation), but from my own personal experience I have to agree with Blah.

My Epox 8RDA+ hasn't given me any problems (apart from when I've tried to push it too far) either with setup or stability. Excellent motherboard.

Just remember to get an Nforce 2 motherboard and you'll be happy.

The Abit NF7-S is a very good value. The onboard sound is better than all but the most expensive sound cards, but uses less cpu resources.
The only minus is the quality of the manual. You are better off downloading the web version.
Some of the older xp2200+ cores ran very hot. Your friend's system would probably be much happier with an aftermarket hsf.
I have built xp systems with every available chipset. The nforce is the only way to go.

the main reason I don't use NF7-? at this point, caz they have "active cooling" on it, can't stand extra whining.

PS: can NF7-? beat <A HREF="http://www.epoxstore.com/Product_Detail.asp?Product_ID=1047" target="_new">this</A> price?

I recommend ABIT NF7 v2.0/ABIT NF7-S v2.0. I have one and very satisfied with it. Not one of the cheapest, but the price is fair enough

Have you used ABIT NF7 mobos? The northbridge active cooler ***DOESN'T WHINE AT ALL***. It's completely inaudible.

And why don't you mention the cold truth with your link? The $40 magic price is a "refurbished" price.

you are probably a nivice with PCs, and do not know that if mobo is working right out of the box, it is going to work untill your body will get into the box, so 30 days is more than enough to "find out" how long the mobo will live.

Recently, I was personnally left with a bad taste in my mouth with an Asus board (A7N8X Deluxe). I switched to a DFI board (NFII Ultra Infinity). Cheap board with expensive tastes. It's rock solid with a boat load of features, including 4 SATA channels, Firewire, nForce SoundStorm, integrated LAN and CMOS Reloaded (useful if you're in tweaking a lot).
I know that people also appreciate the NF7 from Abit, although it's a tad more expensive.
The DFI NFII Ultra Infinity is an amazing bang-for-buck board.

Yeah, that's what I am trying to explain here: there is other fish in the ocean. It seams like peepel here are mad about Abit and Asus ever though these companies not providing quality they used to in "those days".

I must admit that I used to favor Asus for a long time. Friends had good experiences with non "Tier-1" makers and I decided to give DFI a shot. I'm quite glad I did

How about ABIT KT7-A support DURON/ATHLON? I see it on announcement. The second product have a very nice price less than $20. How about your opinion about that mobo! What the limit of processor support for that board? Give me infoz and recommendation.

Start from now! I need infoz about cheap mobos. Becoz my mobo became trouble and it still repaired by the service center. Plz give me infoz about the cheap and great mobos!
Other cool infoz about mobo. My friend was check in the computer market. There is Gigabyte mobo with price +-$40. I dont know more about the type. But I know if Gigabyte is still have a good reputation. How about your opinion (AGAIN)?

Thank you very much friend about your attention and replies.
Best regards,

The Abit KT7-A is an old board with the VIA KT133A chipset which doesn't support Athlon XP CPUs nor DDR memory. Actually, it's a discontinued product. No wonder it's cheap.
As I said earlier, I'm quite impressed with my DFI NFII Ultra Infinity, which is cheap for the boat load of features it includes. The NF7-S from Abit is a good board too with support for Athlon XP CPUs. There's also the Soltek 75FRN2-L, which is also quite cheap, and the EPoX EP-8RDA3+.

lol, sorry, I completely forgot about your existance, I do wonder why though, hehe.

Ok serious time guy!
How is that best overclocker is NF-7 (what do you mean by "best", is it because it can go 4.9830876329 MHz higher than the other ones;?)
best featurel is 7NNXP
and NF-7 is still best overall?
