I just built a new computer and need to find an OS. Through the academic program I'll be able to get a very cheap Windows 7 upgrade when it comes out, but I need something to upgrade it from. I saw a bunch of these Vista keys for sale on ebay. I already have a "Anytime Upgrade" disc from my laptop that should work. I was just wondering if anybody knew about this. Is it actually a retail copy? Is it legal? Is it a great deal or just a scam? Any thoughts?

How can you tell whether it's a scam or not? If they are in the USA and have a high rating with many reviews shouldn't it be safe? What questions can I ask them to make sure it's real? Is there a way to tell before I buy?

If not, where do you suggest is the best place to get a deal on Windows. I'm going to upgrade it immediately, so it doesn't matter on the version.

You get what you pay for. One member in this forum was suggesting that you could buy eBay keys from people who sold their Technet keys. That's against Microsoft's licensing terms for Technet, and if Microsoft discovers it they could deactivate the affected keys.

If it was me, I'd stay very, very far away.

Maybe through the same academic program, you may be able to purchase the full version cheaper, after all not everyone will have a previous OS to upgrade from.
Why not ask.

In ecent months I have bought keys for Vista, Windows 7 and Norton 2010 all on ebay for 10 machines I checked with Microsoft all are legit, Have no idea how these people are doing it but is first time in 20 years i now have legit software, Many friends were saying if microsoft done windows and office for these prices there sales would quapruple and they qould not have to spend daft amounts of money on battling piracy Came on Billy Boy Gates you know it makes sense

I agree the same goes for LCD tv's

If Sony, Samsung and Panasonic would only sell their tv's for the same price as what the shady guy (thief) selling tv's out the back of his van sells for, their sales would quadruple and then we could achieve world peace.

Microsoft already has over 80% of the market share for OS and Office products, how on earth could their sales quadruple unless most of those are pirated copies or Technet keys being offered through eBay?
