Joystick setup problem

Just finished new build and I can not get my joystick to work on the same game that worked on the old computer.
I used same joystick with Grid and it worked great on old system. On the new one I can not configure it correctly...it does not recognize the steer right or steer left as an axis....same problem on accelerate and brake on same axis.
Joystick is recognized in both computers and I can calibrate in control panel of both machines
Old computer---Win XP Pro E6550, Asus board, DVD, 500G WD HD, 2 gigs DDR2, 8800GT

New Computer Win 7 Pro, AMD 955, Gigabyte board, 640G WD HD, 4 gigs DDR3, 5850 Video..

The same problem on Dirt 2, but I did not try it on the old computer.
I still have old system running and use KVM switch until I finish everything.

Joystick is old USB Microsoft Precision 2, no force feedback...oldie but goodie
Would new Joystick help?

Any suggestions from the experts?????

Problem Solved with new joystick.
The old joystick was not recognized properly in Win 7.

WOW, that old joystick was designed for Win 98 sticker on bottom....

I actually use an old PS controller on a PS to usb adapter. Dirt 2 does not recognize the joypad itself. I had to remap all of the controls individually.

how did u do that man??? I have the same joypad axs u and cannot configure it
