I have a P4@2.8 FSB800, 1GB DDR400 (2*512, dual channel), 2*160GB@7200RPM Maxtor Diamond9, MSI Starforce 5600 VTDR (256MB Ram) Computer. I am a filmstudent and therefore need a pretty strong Workhorse for the video-editing stuff. I recently read the article about how a Dual Xeon system could possibly work out better for me. What i could afford would be the Tiger i7505 S2668AN with 2 Xeons @ 2.4 FSB533, can someone tell me if it would be worth the €750 I would have to invest or is the difference to minimal?
In Addition i would have to know if i have to buy a separate pair of coolers, i have a LIAN-LI 6010 ATX Chassis and a more juicy power-supply (have a 400W no-name)

Theorically, you will get a huge perfromance boost in encoding since you will a lot more CPU power. All your multi-threaded apps. will run faster.

But, if you really want the best Audio/Video workstation, you should consider MAC G5. I know someone who bought a Dual G5 MAC and it's so fast, it's very impressive to see it live! But this would cost you a lot more.

By the way, if you upgrade, get another 1Gig of RAM. Video Editing will benefit from it. Have you set your Hard Disk in a RAID array, to haver faster read/write performance?
