Cant get 5.1 surround sound on my Headset..

Hi, so I can't get the 5.1 to work on my pc.. I have some really good headphones.. but my pc will only play low quality music from them.. when I go to my control panel to configure the sound type it only lets me config the speakers to 5.1 not my headphones.. I dont have speakers college dorm, but id like to listen to music in surround sound since i have the headphones already.. can any one help?

In order for 5.1 surround sound to work from your PC, you'll need a receiver that can decode 5.1 output from your PC. I'm pretty sure that you cannot output 5.1 surround sound to a pair of headphones, as they cannot decode the signal.

what headphones do you have?
