Lag online in multiplayer!!!!

ok heres the problem when me and a friend try to play c&c generals zero hr on multiplayer on maps with 6 or more players ai or human we get monster lagg!!!! And the lagg is sooo bad that it is not uncommon for 15 seconds to go by befor 1 second goes by in the game!!! and I meat the specs reqiered to play by a lot.
so all i wont to know is how to fix the lag.
