Today I got the parts to build a new computer. I installed everything, it all looked good. When I turned it on I wasn't getting power to my cd drive but power to everything else, and I wasn't getting a display. All the fans were running and I couldn't figure it out. I rewired it and tryed again, I got the samething. Suddenly as it was running a power wire that was going into a floppy drive started to smoke, so I quickly turned it off and pulled the wire out of the drive. I've never had anything like this happened before. I can't think of what it could be. It's all really confusing. Power to everything but the cd drive, no display (graphics card is 9800pro btw), and a wire started to smoke and melt. I really need some help.

That's usually what happens when your floppy is wired 1 pin off center. That would burn the wire, it MIGHT damage the floppy drive or power supply, and WOULD likely cause a boot issue due to the overloaded line.

Thanks alot, I already threw out the floppy drive and I'm going to get a new power supply today (after testing it after the burning and smoke it was dead). Do you think it could of damaged anything else? everything seems fine, there wasn't smoke from anywhere else. Next time I'll have to be more careful about checking for little things like that.

Highly unlikely you've damaged anything else.
