Changing MOBO: need to reinstall the OS?

Folks,

I'm changing the MOBO in my web server from a PII 400Mhz to an Athlon XP 2100.

The system has been running Windows 2000 very stably for about four years.

Am I naive to hope that I can just drop in the new MOBO without having to reinstall the OS?

It's possible that it could work, but for best stability and performance you should reinstall the OS.

I've had good luck doing just a repair installation under XP and suspect you'll be able to get by with that under 2k as well.

I find it helps to go into device manager and clear out all drivers before shutting done the old board for the last time.
