Hello Baby_Jade,

Starcraft: Brood War (*1998) by Blizzard Entertainment, that was and still is the prime game for me.

However, other Blizzard games such as Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (*2001) and World of Warcraft (*2004) have also been very satisfying, but not so memorable as Starcraft. It's also pretty neat you can access your games from anywhere, without having to pay additional fees for either the multiplayer or re-downloading them when you use the Battle.Net feature.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Footnotes

*#1: Original Starcraft came out in 1995, and the expansion in 1998 after the completion of Diablo I.

*#2: Original Diablo II came out in 1999.

*#3: Since then there have been two expansions; but i'm sure you probally knew that from it's popularity.

For me, and probably many others, it wasnt one game, but many. The cool thing about gaming, is that there are so many different games and genres to choose from.
So for me, there was not one game that dragged me in, it was seeing how many there are and that each game is fun in its own way.

Two games, both from the best system in the world: N64

Banjo-Kazooie and Golden Eye
April 27, 2010 2:42:30 AM

Gah. I totally forgot about those games. I revert Starcraft and put up Golden Eye as my Game of Gamers choice. Total classic.
April 27, 2010 2:58:43 AM

Tie Fighter, although not my original, it is what got me really hooked (and that I still play to this day).
April 27, 2010 3:17:15 AM

Ummm.... that brings me back to my Commodore 64 days. One of the 1st games I played was Ultima 3.

I'm playing Ultima 3 again on my Droid; NES version.
April 27, 2010 8:52:39 AM

if I exclude commodore 64, and go with PC gaming (that I still actively do) it was Doom... and Quake :)
April 27, 2010 8:54:34 AM

ah, yes...
and Team Fortress 2 made me overclocker (CPU heavy game)... :D
April 27, 2010 9:01:54 AM

I think my earliest home video game was a single game pong console...

I was lucky that my parents were young enough to get into computers and games right at the start of the home computer revolution, Pong came shortly before a real computer.

Back in those days games came out thick and fast, there werent many big hyped releases. Oddly enough piracy was probably a good 80% of all game copies back then...
April 27, 2010 9:06:37 AM

Hi all,
I played many games, but what got me in to gaming was c and c red alert the aftermath, mainly because i played it on link up with a mate on the ps one. The other game that made my buy a pc and upgrade it was dawn of war, i was blown away by this game so i got all of them and then Dawn of war 2 and Chaos rising came out and now i find it hard to play any other game.

Manic Miner on the Spectrum!
April 27, 2010 12:00:46 PM

The Atari 2600 is what made me a gamer. Not a game in itself, but it definitely is the reason why I love playing video games.
April 27, 2010 2:56:58 PM

Before N64, it was Mario Karts for SNES. Golden Eye for the N64 was prob the first game that I got insanely good at and played all of the time. I found a cheap Halo disk and tried it out on my PC and that actually got me hooked on the online play and PC building (since my crappy Dell could hardly run it). Found out that using a mouse was much better than a control pad and I have been PC gaming ever since.
April 27, 2010 3:59:06 PM

Good thread! Yeah c64 for me originally, but probably Wolf 3D on the PC or the first game I played proper multiplayer on was Quake using an old dial up 28.8. But I'd have to say the first addictive games that god me hooked were Commando or Dizzy on the C64
April 27, 2010 4:25:40 PM

Hmm, probably LeaderBoard and The Last Ninja.

But way too many to list.
April 27, 2010 4:36:32 PM

Dragon Quest (the first four, actually :D )
Doom/Doom II

The first "proper" mp game was BF2 for me though...
April 27, 2010 4:46:56 PM

mm... zelda ALTTP and (strangely enough) stargate on the snes.

PC though, id say worms 2 and Silver

Nope. StarCraft released in March of 1998, and Brood Wars in November of the same year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starcraft

Wolfenstein 3D got me started on the PC, along with SimCity and Dune II a bit later.
April 28, 2010 11:54:00 AM

doom and diablo 2

even now i still remember almost every lvl of doom.
and diablo... well i still played it a year ago
April 28, 2010 4:17:03 PM

This takes me back. For me there were a few games that turned me into the video game addict I am today :)

It started with the original XCOM-UFO Defense then followed by:

2. Command and Conquer original and original Red Alert.
3. Goldeneye.
4. Starcraft/Warcraft RTS.
April 28, 2010 4:38:00 PM

1.Warcraft 2
2.Quake (insane :)  gameplay at that time )
3.Monkey Island series

Nope, it actually came out on the Apple computer first. That's where I started playing computer games (after my Atari 2600) and it's what I learned to program on and is pretty much the reason why I'm in the IT world as my profession.

Thanks Woz! [:isamuelson:9]

April 29, 2010 12:52:34 AM

For me it had to be Doom that started it all.
April 29, 2010 1:06:08 AM

Ultima Online. Almost didn't graduate high school because I would skip/ditch school and go home to play ultima online.
April 29, 2010 1:29:58 PM

Hexan and Heretic were great games...reminds me of a game called Shadow Warrior "Do you want to wash Wang; or do you want to watch Wang wash Wang?"
April 29, 2010 3:15:15 PM

Welcome to the forum, thanks for the interesting topic!
Super Mario Bros 3. Me n my friend used to stay up all night playing, but my parents would make us go to bed and we would leave the system on overnight only to find that the game froze by morning.

Yeah, I think Ultima started out on the Apple II, then branched out to other platforms. I believe Origin System eventually dropped developement on Apple computers due to the small install base.

I tried playing the C64 ROM version of Ultima 3 on my Droid using an C64 emulator, but the ROM had corrupted character slots so I wasn't even able to create characters to form a party. Briefly tried the C64 ROM of Ultima 4 which worked, but due to the fact that the virtual keyboard in the emulator isn't exactly a QWERTY style keyboard, it made movement rather ackward.

For example, the key to move left (west) is the ; key and the key to move right (east) is the ' key. On the virtual keyboard the position of those keys are reversed. The keys to move up (north) and down (south) were even more messed up.

I'm currently playing the NES version of Ultima 3. Music and graphics are different from the C64 version as well as a bit of the gameplay.

I could be wrong, but I think Ultima 6 marked the last Utima game for the C64.

Yup, Ultima VI never made it to the Apple. I don't think it even made it on the II gs, which I never owned. It was the first major PC game targeted specifically towards PCs with VGA graphics and a mouse, even though the Amiga was at the time considered to be THE gaming platform.

** Wonders if Wingdings first game was 'Jet-Set Willy' **

The Spectrum was both the start and the end of my gaming experience. Marble Madness, Ant Attack, Horris goes skiing... I can almost hear the squeal of the tape loading.
April 29, 2010 8:05:45 PM

For me it was (believe it or not) army men 2 and warcraft 2.Amazing games for their time.
April 29, 2010 10:23:02 PM

My very first game was Commander Keen 1, I also got seriously addicted to Wing Commnder 1 and Privateer. Those were the days when 1 computer game kept me busy for probably months, I think they're being dumbed down too much these days.
