The questions are as follows

1.> Will a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 533/800 FSB HT Technology Pro work with it.

2.> It has Dual Channel DDR 266/333/400 Support i.e. 4 Slots for ram.
he just wants 256 MB of ram is it compusary to add 2 chips of 128 or will
a single 256mb ram stick do.he wants a corsair or a hynix DDR 400 Ram chip will they work with a 2.4GHz 533/800FSB CPU.

3.> It has 2 channel ata will i be able to connect 4 ata based devices
i.e. a dvd rom , a cd writer , 2 ata based hdd's.

4.> Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 2.5 Volt DDR SDRAM
what does this word unbuffered mean.

5.> Does 2 Channel ultra ata means primary and secondry channel.

1.> Will a Pentium 4 2.4 GHz 533/800 FSB HT Technology Pro work with it.

Yes

2.> It has Dual Channel DDR 266/333/400 Support i.e. 4 Slots for ram. he just wants 256 MB of ram is it compusary to add 2 chips of 128 or will a single 256mb ram stick do.he wants a corsair or a hynix DDR 400 Ram chip will they work with a 2.4GHz 533/800FSB CPU.

A single 256 stick will work just fine, but he won't have the benefit of dual channel memory. I'd recommend two sticks of 256 if he can afford it.

3.> It has 2 channel ata will i be able to connect 4 ata based devices i.e. a dvd rom , a cd writer , 2 ata based hdd's.

Yes, this board offers two Ultra ATA channels for up to four devices. However if you're using Serial ATA, it'll only support two of those devices.

4.> Supports four unbuffered DIMM of 2.5 Volt DDR SDRAM
what does this word unbuffered mean.

Buffered RAM is sold with the label ECC and is what you find in servers. Unbuffered DDR is what the majority of us use in home PC's.

5.> Does 2 Channel ultra ata means primary and secondry channel.

Yes

In looking at your configuration, everything will work together OK. Try to go for the 800 MHz. FSB processor. Also, the 5200 video card is pretty weak.

256 megs of RAM? That's gonna choke that system. First off, since it won't run dual channel, the processor will be hampered, second, since it's only 256 megs, you're systems gonna be hittin the swap file like Marion Barry on the crack pipe. That [-peep-] is gonna run slower than a special olympics decathlete unless you at least throw in another stick o' 256

I'd go with the Abit IS7. It's inexpensive and uses the ICH5R controller which offers SATA RAID if he ever wants it. Did I mention it's an inexpensive board?

1.) Yes
2.) You don't need to use dual channel, but it offers increased performance. I don't recommend using 256MB on a Windows XP system, it's not enough to make the OS run efficiently.
3.) 2 ATA channels support 2 ATA cables, each cable supports 2 drives. That's 4 ATA drives. Plus you can add 2 SATA drives for a total of 6 drives.
4.) Unbuffered is standard RAM.
5.) Yes

How much is that FX5200 going to cost? Because it isn't actually worth much, performance wise.

I'd go with an Inwin or Enlight case with power supply included.

Bump
Its only four years old...
I have the 3.a revision platinum,(its only 2 years old for me, never an update...dare I say the perfect build by msi) one sata drive for each plug, (no raid )that I could see in book or bios
but do have a question rather important....
I want a 400gb sata with 16mb buffer, I am aware that the mobo is sata1, and the drive is a wd sata2 (backwards compatible), but really need to know how big of a hdd can I slap on this thing...

my mpeg2 encoding is a tragedy, I hope the sata helps it along with the pata staying installed.
Any help appreciated.

EDIT:
I did find my way to the msi foreum and searched...
found a bunch of 320gb satas in configurations, but no 400gb. More importnatly, having the latest bios did not get to see this update a;ready applied at time of my purchase:
865PE Neo2 Series (MS-6728 PCBv1) v. 2.4 386 kb Intel AMI BIOS 9/20/2004
This BIOS is valid for 865PE Neo2-S/LS/FIS2R1. This is AMI BIOS release2. This BIOS fixes the following problem(s) of the previous version:
- Supports HDD size over 136.9GB.
- Updates CPU Microcode.
- Fixes system cannot recognize 4 PCI capture cards under Win2000.
Please Note: 1.x~2.x BIOS cannot be used on 865G/PE Neo2 P series (MS-6728 PCBv2).
