Worth the upgrade?

Upgraded system:

Athlon 64 3400+ Clawhammer

Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200
ATI RADEON X800 PRO Video Card, 256MB
KINGWIN Black Aluminum 10-Bay Mid-Tower Model "KT-424-BK-WM"
Antec 430W Custom Wrapped from performance-pcs.com

I would re-use all other components for the new system. Tell me your thoughts if you think it would be worth it to upgrade to this new system.

Your upgraded system will blow your current system into the weeds. I might look at an NF3-250 board over a Via, but there's no doubt that you will be faster than a 3.4C P4 at most things.

That system isn't bad, I'd probably just put in a faster video card and maybe a P4 3.06 to hold me over to next year.

Perhaps, but one of my suppliers was selling discontinued OEM PC's (HP I think) with 3.06 for just over $400, you could pull one of those, put in your 2.4B, and sell the donor system for $300 on the used market.

Go for the upgrade, if money is no problem.

BTW, buy MSI K8N Neo Platinum instead of ASUS K8V Deluxe

If the new system is mostly for gaming, I'd wait for slower versions of socket 939, which may come out by the end of the year.

Is the NF3 chipset much better than the VIA chipset?

Also what are some of you guys waiting for to upgrade to? I've been out of the loop for a while and I'm trying to figure out if I should wait to upgrade, upgrade certain components or upgrade it all now.

NF3 250 has better features and better driver. And if you want to overclock, then VIA is no match for NF3 250. VIA doesn't have PCI lock, but NF3 250 has. This makes a big difference in overclocking.

I would just buy a better video card and overclock a little bit. But I seem to be the minority here. Save up some money to buy a S939, 754 is pretty much dead except for the value processors that are coming out for it. At least with 939 you'll have some upgrade options with the CPU.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to just upgrade the video card to an ATI X800-XT for now. I will wait for the socket 939 to come down in price. I'll probably wait till the end of the year to upgrade the rest.
