First let me graciously thank u for reading my post.
*noob warning*
Ok, The North bridge chipset fan on my ABIT NF7-S v2.0 is dieing. It's now making a horrible noise that's really starting to make me frown. I have orderd a Vantec IceBerg as a replacement.

I have never changed a chipset Heatsink/Fan before. Will it require the MB to be removed from the case? Or is it just a matter of pulling those little pins straight out? I tried pulling on them a bit but kinda got skeert when they wouldn't go easy.

Thank you very much for any advice.

I might require you to remove the motherboard from the case, I dont have any experience with your board so Im not sure how it is attached. Can you give me more imformation?

One thing you must be carefull not to do is too twist or pull of the heatsink once the clips are removed. If it does not come off after the application of a little force (you will need to use a bit) then try putting it in a freezer bag and chucking it in the freezer for half an hour, this should loosen any adhesive they have used on it.

Pulled off the NB HSF on my board. There are two ways First way is too remove the mobo so you can get to back of board. The pins have little locking tab thingy or edges, which you can push together with small pliers. You can then push the pins out through the front.

Second way, if you don't wanna remove the mobo from case and you have extra pins,is to cutoff/clip pins at their head and push them on through the heatsink and out back of the mobo.

Have some good thermal grease handy, the factory job is blob that doesn't cover whole area. I use arctic silver 5.

after you seat the new HSF, just push the little white pins on through and they automtically lock into place.

EDIT: Don't pull the pins out the way you described, they lock from the back. My mobo had cheap thermal grease, no adhesive, so the NB HSF should come off rather easily.

Good Luck

Thanks very much for the info on the NB HSF install. It was very helpfull. Is it worth it to throw a HS on the SB??? If so, how the heck do ya install that one? There are no holes in my MB next to the SB for push pins.

Thx much,
Steely
