I recently replaced my stock CPU cooler on my Athlon XP 2400+. I purchased a Thermaltake Silent Boost, and the installation went fine. I added Artic Silver 5 paste on the CPU. I started the computer and it went into Windows fine. Then I noticed that the FSB reverted back to 100, so I entered the BIOS and changed it to 133. Because the CPU is 133*15 = 2000 MHz. I saved the changes and restarted. Now it won't post, and the Asus reporter gives me a MEMORY ERROR. I have reset the CMOS, changed the sequence of the memory, boot with no sticks, just one stick or the other, try different slots, nothing. I have also taken out and put the CPU back in the socket hoping that would reset something. I can't understand why the computer says there is a memory error. I have been using this memory for the past 1 1/2 years. Please help?

Ummm. Hello, the computer will not POST. It gives me a MEMORY ERROR, therefore it fails the POST test, and the computer just sits there. Little update: I tried a different video card, different CPU, and a new battery and none of those things helped the situation. I guess the board is done. Somehow the BIOS must have been corrupted. I will have to RMA it back to Asus. I have run out of ideas. The only thing I could try, would be different memory, and I do not have any other DDR memory laying around.

"I saved the changes and restarted."

Restarted? By powering off and on? If so, may have corrupted the BIOS by shutting down b4 it was done saving.

Well, I went into the BIOS and made my changes, then I clicked Exit and Save Changes. I clicked Y for Yes, and then once you hit Y and Enter, the computer automatically restarts. Thats when the problem happened. Once it restarted, it said Memory Error, and the computer fails POST test. I believe the BIOS got corrupted, even though I didn't touch the power button. I have an RMA with Asus.

Well, I got the board back, and I still get a memory error. What the... Asus said they fixed, and flashed the BIOS to the newest version. You think they would have checked to see if the board worked. Well, I have tried a different CPU, video card, and reset the CMOS. Nothing. Still a memory error. If I remove all the memory, and start it, I get long long long beeps. Is it possible, that 2 Corsair DDR 400 sticks, don't work? I find that very hard to believe. I have tried 1 or the other, and in different slots. Any ideas?

Problem fixed. I used a stick of DDR memory from my Uncle. Put the memory in, and it booted right up. Stuck my Corsair memory back in, and it works fine again. I don't know, the BIOS wouldn't reconize the memory. Also, on Corsair's website, it says that my Corsair XMS memory PC3200C2 can run the following timings. Intel platform:6-3-3-2. AMD platforms 6-3-3-2.5. That is retarted. I have been running my memory at a CAS of 2 for the last 1 1/2 years. What the.... Why all of a sudden, do they say that I can't run my memory at those latencies. The memory is currently running on auto 6-3-3-2.5. I am scared to change it to 2, cause the board will probably crash again.
