Hello folks! This is my first post here at Tom's and it's due to having some performance issues. I'm trying to figure out where my video performance is lagging behind. Below are my system specs...
AthlonXP 3000+ (400mhz FSB)
Asus A7N8X (Version 2.0, 400mhz FSB Support)
1gb of Corsair XMS, PC3200-DDR
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb
Samsung 7200rpm 80gb drive
I ran 3DMark2001, and scored about a 15,300. When I compare that to other systems with similar processors/vid cards/ram, I am scoring 4-7000 points lower than some. I've searched far and wide, and can't seem to find anything. I believe I have all the updated drivers for everything and I have messed with some of the bios settings and still no luck. Does anyone have any ideas?
When 3DMark opens, you change the setting there. If I remember, you can just click default benchmark. It should be 1024*768. Also, remember, a lot of people who benchmark have overclocked systems. (mine included.) By overclocking, their score can go up by a few thousand points. My default was 11,100, when overclocked it went to 12,769. Try to see what ATI drivers work best with 3dMark2001 and your card. Also, disable all background programs like Anti-virus. If running XP, set it to classic settings, like 9x. Also, disable V-sync. Your score isn't all that bad. A little low, but with some tweaks, you can gain a few hundred points.
