OLD pc game, racing first person

I am thinking of a game I used to play when I was younger... say 1993-2000.
It featured dark tracks, futuristic cars, good graphics (smooth), red chevrons for speed ups, and your vehicle was upgraded automatically with a few choices for upgrades.

I have come across a lot by searching and its not Scorcher, but similar...

Please help me out, my mind is killing me trying to think of this.
