My problem is that when I begin using a firewire device through the onboard adapter, a terrible high pitch noise starts, and its not quiet!!! This is weird to me; when it's not in use there's no noise, then i plug it back in and there it goes!

It's certainly not like a fan noise, (higher freq.) could it be a PSU issue? Any ideas on what could cause such a noise?

System:
-ASUS P4P800 dlx (using the onboard IEE1394)
-kingston value ram
-P4 3.0 GHz
-Antec Sonata Case
-Zalman CNPS 7000a-cu
-seagate cuda SATA

(the firewire device is yamaha 01x)

Are you sure the noise is coming from the computer? Only with all that audio circuitry I'd have to point the finger at the device first.

Have you tried plugging it into another computer (a friend's?) to see if you get the same problem?

I've known Monitors make annoying high-pitched squealing noises in the past, but not actual computers.

the monitors are off, and the noise is definately coming from the pc, but where exactly> I'd have to guess the onbboard firewire adapter. But how is the noise being created? and how could it be fixed?
