I got a new msi mobo with kt600 (MS-7021) and a 2500xp cpu.
all other parts are my old ones and running. wenn i plugged all the conections to the new mobo and power on, all the fans are running, hd led's are on but nothing happens. hd don't runs( just an open led), and the worst thing, no sound from mobo. what can it be? i plugged my old duron 800 to new mobo, nothing changed. and wenn i take out the ide-cable from hd, and let only the power cable, now the hd beginns to run, i mean noises and so.
what kind of problem can this be?

First thing I would do is unplug all drives, leaving only cpu (with HSF), ram and vid card (hook up monitor too).

Get it to boot and go from there. Add KB and mouse. Add drives etc.

You'll be able to narrow down the prob then. Prolly just got something hooked up wrong.

If it won't boot at first step, maybe take the mobo outa the case to ensure no short there.

Note the old 3.3v vid cards usually don't work in newer mobos and cause this such prob. If it's a 4X agp it's not a 3.3v card btw.

Good Luck and remember to unplug power while your diagnosing it so you don't short something.

i tried with with 2 other graphic cards, one is quite new, radeon8500, and tried without grap. card, nothing changed.
the main problem is that there are no beeps from mobo.
shouldn't it have a buzzer?

Honestly not familiar enough with that mobo to say. I would've said "yeah" you get beeps cuz my MSI mobo does. But, I've just recently got a nforce2 mobo (Shuttle) that doesn't. Found out that's normal on a shuttle forum. I almost sent the mobo back, but it's up running fine (brand new psu was faulty in my case)

I'm thinking the 8500 is not a prob.

Did you unplug drives etc. to see if you could get it to just post?

Reseat ram?

Try it out of the case on a phone book or newspaper. Set it up next to the case so you hook up the power switch.

I've taken to always first get it to post o/s the case with cpu/ram/vid card so I'm not putting in_taking out_putting in etc when I get a bad component.

Check the cmos jumper, mahe sure it's in the right position. Every once in a while I hear of one shipped in the "clear" position. Might as well clear it as well. Ya never know.

I think there's a FAQ posted at the top. Do check that as well.

Good Luck

BTW, why you bought KT600? It's not better than nForce2 by any means.

If you've just bought it, then return the mobo (if you can) and get a decent nForce2 mobo (like ABIT NF7 v2.0/NF7-S v2.0)

Well, nVidia isn't monopolizing AMD chipset market. They have gained market share with better quality, not with hype or evil tricks.

BTW, if I remember correctly, last time you posted here, you were thinking about getting a nForce2 mobo.
