Doom 3 is upon us and I'm taking this chance to build a new system. My current system is below.

P4 2.4B
Gigabyte GA-8IHXP rev 3.0
512MB PC1066 Rambus
2 x WD 80GB 7200
Antec 430w True Power Supply
SB Live Gamer 5.1
GF4 Ti-4600
TDK Indi Black 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Model AID+880N
TDK CDRW 32x10x40
Lian-Li PC-65

My new and improved system.

Athlon 64 FX-53 939
Asus A8V Deluxe (unsure)
2 x 512MB CORSAIR XMS Series Model CMX512-3200XL
2 x Western Digital 7200RPM SATA in RAID 0
Graphics Card see below
NEC 8X Black Dual Layer DVD+/-RW
MSI BLack DVD-ROM
NEC Black Floppy Drive
X-Connect 500W Ultra Modular Titanium ATX Power Supply with UV Cable Kit
Kingwin KT-424 Case w/window

Now here are some of my dilemas. There seems to be a lack of 939 mobos available for purchase right now. VIA seems to be the first to get on the shelves. Although this chipset is gettin good reviews I see that a lot of people here are saying don't go with a VIA chipset. There is a Gigabyte mobo available with nforce3 but I will never buy Gigabyte again since my last mobo was a disappointment. Any suggestions on what I should be waiting for on the mobo front? I have 3 choices for a graphics card. They are the X800-XT, Geforce 6800GT or Geforce 6800 Ultra. I'm racking my brain as to which I should purchase. I've read extensive reviews and the XT and 6800 Ultra seem to be on par with each other. The nice thing about the GT is the price, one molex, and the OC ability of the card. I also read that we may see better performance from the nvidia cards in Doom 3. What are some of your thoughts on the cards and which would you guys pick?

If I re-use any parts from the old system it would probably only be the DVD burner since it is already black. Thanks for your help in advance.

I have a hard time believing you couldn't put a x800Pro in that existing system and play DOOM III. Do that first while you snoop around for your next "perfect' build.

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT, MSI!

Why put in a X800 Pro when i could get a 6800GT for about the same price with better performance? Also, are you suggesting I wait for more 939 mobos to arrive and prices to drop before I do my next build?

Hey, get what ever card you want that you can transfer over. And yes, card first, play DOOM III, wait for prices to fall a little and platforms to take their final form. That way, two days after you finish DOOM III you will still have something to look forward too!

Craig's right, companies are dragging ass on these boards, don't settle for second best. If you need better graphics, just buy a card now, and upgrade the rest of the system after these people actually release top quality hardware.
