Hi I'm new here. I'm about to build a new computer, mostly for gaming of course. Anyway I'm a little concerned that i might buy some things that may not work with the MSI motherboard I'm getting. Here's what I have planned so far but haven't bought yet:

MSI Neo2-PFISR 865PE (Socket 478)
Intel P4 Northwood 2.8C 800MHz FSB 512K HT
Kingston 512mb PC3200 (Kingston Part #: KVR400X64C3A/512)
Hitachi 80GB 7200RPM SATA (Hitachi Part #: HDS722580VLSA80)
NEC 8X Black Dual Layer DVD+/-RW (NEC Part #: ND-2510A BLK)

Is there anything wrong with the list I have?
I'm thinking about going with an ATI 9800 Pro vid card but I'm not sure if they work well with this mobo.
I can really use some advice. Thanks for reading.

Mike

I can't find any issues with an 865PE board and a 9800Pro. I did not have any issues with an P875 board and a 9800Pro. Is there something specific you have discovered with that board?

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100

That's exactly what I'm look for, I want to know if there's any known problems or compatability issues with motherboard and other hardware. Are there any reliability issues i should know about Hitachi drives? Seems newegg customers have had a couple problems with them, but there's a LOT more good reviews than bad.

AMD outperforms the p4 in almost every gaming bench.
If its a gaming system why not go with the less expensive
AND better performing AMD setup? Just wondering/suggesting.

I'm not too familiar with AMD processors, I've heard numerous times that they're for gaming, but I've had a couple friend's who switched over to Intel due to reliability factors. Reliability is my top priority, then performance. I will also be doing some video editing, which I also heard Intel is the better way to go.

I've been buying Samsung drives, but in general, I have had few problems with Maxtor, IBM (Hitachi), or Seagate. I just never had a Western Digital in anything to compare. You'd better make sure that power supply delivers at least 16a on the 12v rail. Don't load the case up TOO much. I like NEC burners!

So far so good. I like Samsung products in general, especially their monitors. I've been buying the drives for about 6 months.

cool, cool. I've never had any reliability issues
with an AMD setup. Gigabytes suct for me. MSI has
suct for me. And 2 of the 3 P4 systems i've sat in
on and had a hand in building have sent thier PSU's
the way of the Dodo. GET A GOOD PSU W/ A P4!!!
P4's are awesome for overclocking though; which
may have been a factor in the 2 PSU's going bad
with the extra juice being suct out of them for the overclock.
Me and my buddy Tyler bumped a p4 1.8's 100 mhz fsb up
to 133 and the temp didn't go up one degree. He eventually
bumped it to 150 w/ only a slight raise in temp. BUT; his
PSU went bad. he upped it to a 400W and that one went bad too.
So i say AGAIN; GET A BETTER PSU!! especially if u take advantage
of the p4's awesome overclockability. Me personally? I'ld go with
an AMD set up.

I thought Antec had pretty good PSU's? Is there something more reliable than what Antec offers with their cases? It puts out at least 16amps at 12V according to Antec.

I've had good luck with <A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-153-006&depa=0" target="_new">this</A> so far. The Fortron Source 400 would be another great choice.
