Counterstrike Source won't start.

I keep trying to play counterstrike, but each time it loads it will crash to desktop saying, HL.exe has stopped responding. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game through steam and it still does that.

I don't believe this is an issue with the half life engine because day of defeat and half life 2 death match works. I can also run team fortress 2 no problems.


I have windows 7 64bit.
GTX 260
phenom II x4 955
2x2 ddr3 gskill ram.


Anyone else have the same problem?

Maybe Because you are using Windows 7. This game was made in 2004 so there is no Windows 7 yet so I have one thing I suggest you to do:
1. Go to the Game directory (Counter-strike Source Folder)
2. Right click on Run_css.exe (CSS Launcher) then, properties (I'm using XP I dont know in 7) and Compatibility then 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:'
3. Select Windows XP ( or if there is no xp select other).
Let us see if that Works!
That is the Common problems in Old Games thats running in New OS.

Oh, I almost forgot If that didn't worked Make it also on Hl.exe the same way

alright so I reinstalled the game and now it works. Heh, who knows...
