Left my PC running when I went to work today. Came home and had no pic, but still had sound. Rebooted, got very strange text distortion during POST. Powered down.
A quick inspection during another powerup revealed that the onboard chipset fan has failed.
The PC will POST and boot into Windoiws, albeit with distorted text and no picture after the 'Windows is loading' screen. I can blindly log on and tell that things are happening (I get all my startup sounds). All the other fans are functioning normally.
So, from this info, how much is fried? Just the motherboard? It's an ABit AT7, for the record. That's my take, but I want to resurrect this baby in one shot. It's the older of my 2 PCs, but actually sees more use.
The rest of the hardware in that PC is ok, but far from spectacular (Ti4600, 100 and 120gb WD HDs, 1gb PC2700 memory, Athlon 2000 CPU).
Please offer your opinions on this.
