Gigabyte Mobo - bootup delay after new XP install

When booting my PC, which has a Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro2 motherboard, it pauses for about 30-40 seconds with the GigaRAID message "Please wait for IDE scan..." (along with a little activity indicator.)

After that it boots up fine.

I have tried looking everywhere for an option to stop this happening (BIOS etc.) but without any luck. I've read the manual, Googled, and have sent an email to Gigabyte.

It only started doing this after I had re-installed Windows XP Pro - previously I did not have this annoying delay and message.

Inside my PC I have two hard drives - the main one being a SATA, and the other an ATA. Both are detected and working fine. I have no conflicts in System Manager.

No hardware has been changed - the box has not been opened - just a fresh reinstall from the same Windows XP Pro CD, and the drivers off floppy.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance, Simon.

I have the same board actaully, and haven't expeirenced this. Since you are not using the RAID function, have you tried disabling it?

Thanks for replies.

Actually, with this mobo, the RAID controllers control the hard drives, so disabling RAID disables access to the drives.

What you have to do (and what I have done) is select RAID, and then a further option asks "with RAID should the function be RAID or ATA" - it is THEN that I select ATA over RAID.

So, still trying to solve my problem...

All I did was reinstall Windows XP Pro, and this happened.

I have a GA-7n400Pro2. I disabled RAID on my board, simply becuase I don't use it. Which BIOS version are you using. Did you go into that RAID setup utility in the BIOS?

Disabling RAID on my board does not make my IDE channels disappear, I think you have something mixed up.
