I saw no "general" section so I decided since the MOBO is the heart of the machine, I'd post it here. I'm very new at all this and I'm building my new comp. I have my list narrowed down, and I need to know if it's all compatible, that's all I need to know.

WD Caviar 120GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer ATA/100 HDD - $89 at allstarshop.com
-------------------------------------------------------
NZXT Green ATX MId Tower Case with Side Panel Window, Model "GUARDIAN" -RETAIL - $69

Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 x2 - $83 each This and the case, both from newegg.com
-------------------------------------------------------
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor Socket 754 Retail - $212

MSI K8T Neo-FSR Via KT800 Athlon 64 Skt754 DDR ATX Motherbaord w/Audio, LAN, Serial ATA Retail - $87 This and the Processor from ZipZoomFly.com

Is this case going to fit it all? I'm putting a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB in it as the graphics card. Will all this stuff work quite nicely together? Do you see any problems whatsoever?

I don't see anything wrong with your list. It might simplfy your ordering process if you just go ahead and order everything from NewEgg. They have all that stuff listed at either the same price, or cheaper.

I have order a ton of stuff from new-egg and never had any problems, the other companies you list, I haven't heard of.

Yeah a 380 watt power supply should be enough. If your budget allows though, you might get a little larger. Of course different powersupplies are rated at differently. Normally brand name PSU are rated a little more accurately, so generally a generic one will be just behind a brand name in power ratings.

A couple suggestions.

1) VIA chipsets suck ass. The v-nf3 from chaintech is comparably priced and has lan, onboard audio, and sata, and sports the much better nforce3 chipset. That or just get the K8N neo by MSI.

2) Colloquially, I've heard not nice things about geil. Since corsair and mushkin both sell similarly priced and clocked memory, I'd go with one of them.

3) A 380 watt PSU would be fine for your components, as long as its a reputable brand. If it's a cheapo no-name, you're rolling the dice. A good brand is Fortron Source, Zalman, and Thermaltake (Enermax and Antec are usually good too).

4) This is just my personal taste - that case is f**kin gaudy as hell, it looks like a transformer. But hey.. to each their own.

Ok, I've just run into a big problem that I never took into play. I figured I'd just be upgrading my Dell, but since I've decided to build a whole new computer, I'm without an OS. I have a disc that came with my comp, but it says for distribution with a new Dell PC only. Can I use that disc, or will I have to buy a whole new OS box. Really expensive...

you should be able to reuse it, but you'd need to take it off of your dell first. Since XP can only be on one machine at a time.

I second ordering from Newegg. They have great shipping and handling and a good reputation.

The OS (XP Home)that came with my wifes Dell laptop worked only on Dell. Glad I didn't buy the License first. I believe Gateway does this too.

Newegg has oem XP home for $85, just need to purchase hardware with it and your set. not that expensive.

Prepare for Ramming Speed!!!

If you have an OEM version it is only good for the machine it is originally installed in. That's why I only buy retail. I haven't found a way around it, but there might be one. When I called MS last time I had inadvertantly installed the same XP volume on two machines. They gave me a new CD Key and I still have it that way since their both my machines anyway.
